Ford Repair: transmission of ford explorer 1993, backflushing, electrical problem

Question
Occasionally, my explorer won't shift. Sometimes it sticks in gear, usually when I'm no where near home and then it's ok again. It's been  stuck in gear for as long as 3 days, then suddenly starts to shift normally again. I also seem to have an electrical problem. Clock resets(as if battery was disconnected) and radio has all  sorts of errors.  could this  electrical  problem also cause my tranny problem?  Please, I can't afford a new tranny and I would love to drive my truck again.

Answer
I dont think that the electrical problem is causing your trans to malfunction, as i do not believe they had the electronic controled ones untill the late 90's, though i could be wrong.  First get the transmission fluid changed, and checked.  Get the filter changed also.  Make sure that whatever shop you take it to that they CHANGE the oil filter on the trans and do not just backflush the system.  BE SURE THEY CHANGE THE FILTER, they will tell you that their way of backflushing is just as good but its a lie.  If your trans fails to start shifting properly, its probably something serious.  As far as the electrical problem, its probably the radio and the clock thats busted.
