Ford Repair: I am thinking about having..., street blowers, ati procharger

Question
I am thinking about having a supercharger installed on my 2004 Mustang GT.  What can I expect it to cost, including labor, and would you recomend having it installed by the dealer?  Thank-you!

Answer
Kevin-

First of all, take into account that most supercharger kits will void your warranty.  If this isn't a concern, costs will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and kit to kit.  For instance, an intercooled kit from ATI Procharger will probably run you just under $4000 plus maybe around $1000 to have a shop install it.  Under NO circumstances would I recommend having a dealership do this work.  Try to find a speed shop in your area.  Dealerships don't do work like this and even if one would I wouldn't recommend taking it there.  There are other good kits out there like the ones from Vortech or Paxton...but ATI Procharger is the only one that offers an intercooler standard.  Vortech's aftercooler (essentially the same thing) is much more complicated because it includes a pump and wiring (it's air-water vs. Procharger's air-air) and it adds about $1000 to the kit price.  Plus Procharger carries a line of self contained blowers that do not require punching a hole in the oil pan (but you do need to religiously drain and refill the blower case every 3,000 miles with special oil to keep it in good shape.  Another alternative is the Kenne Belle blowers...very different in style and function but they make great street blowers.  Hope this helps.
