Mazda Repair: clutch replacement 1987 rx7, clutch bearings, rear main oil seal

Question
What do I have to do to replace the clutch in a non turbo 1987 FI rx7, 13b.  The car has sat for several years and only has 86k, Drives fine, but has what feels like slipage if you get on it.  DOes not slip at all if I just drive around and keep the rpms down

Answer
1. Get a clutch kit (Mazda or ACT)  good brand.
2. Lift the car, disconnect the battery.
3. Remove the clutch hydraulic ram (slave cylinder)
4. Remove the shifter (from inside)
5. Remove the starter (suspend it with wire, leave the cables attached)
6. Remove the exhaust (to clear the transmission)
7. Remove the driveshaft
8. Remove the PPF (frame)
9. Remove the speedometer cable
10. Drain then remove the transmission

Take note of the clutch, bearings and be sure to reinstall the same way.  The transmission is heavy so get a transmission jack to hold it.

Once the clutch is removed check the face of the flywheel if pitted or burned remove it and have it "lightly machined".  Check the rear main oil seal for leaks while there.

Refitment involves correct alignment of the input shaft to the clutch splines and the pilot bearing, don't force it if it won't go rather turn the flywheel check the angle and re try fitment.

Best of luck, it is no easy task and without the proper tools close to impossible.
