Question -
I cannot open the Drivers side rear door.
I push the power unlock button and all the doors unlock except the Drivers side rear. I even tried pulling the locking thing on the door up.
All the other doors you can hear and feel it pop up, but it won't do that with the driver side rear door.
I need your help please!
It is a 1997 Ford Explorer I have never had this problem.

Yes Ken I need your help with this problem.
I also need to know how to take the door panel off,
I took the two screws by the handle off but it won't come off.

Answer
Tony,

To remove the door trim panel, remove the two screws that secure the door handle trim then remove the one screw at the upper front of the trim panel then carefully pry out the door handle trim with a screwdriver then flex the trim piece and take it out. Next, insert a screwdriver into the pry notch in the window switch panel, pry the plate up and pull it out, remove the two screws and separate the window and door lock switches from the plate. Release the locking finger on the power mirror connector and disconnect the connector from the switch then insert a wide bladed screwdriver or drim removal tool between the door panel and the door. Carefully pry the trim clips out of the door. Pull the panel out and remove the door light socket and lift the panel to disengage its top edge from the door then remove it. If necessary, carefully peel the watershield from the door, be careful not to tear it. Installation will be the reverse of the removal steps, align the trim clips with their holes and push them into position.

Next you will have to remove the glass to get to the actuator. After you have removed the door trim panel and watershield, pull the inner and outer belt weatherstrips off the door, then remove the screw that secures the front retainer, pull the retainer down and remove it through the access hole in the door. Next, raise the window until it's 4" from the top of its travel, remove the rivets and lift the window up and out of the door. Installation will be the reverse of the removal steps.

Now to remove and replace the rear door window regulator, remove the trim panel and water shield, disconnect the power window electrical connector from the regulator THEN remove the door window. Remove the nuts and washers that secure the window guide (if its equipped) and lift the guide out of the door through the top. If equipped with power windows, remove the motor bracket rivets, drive out the center of each rivet with a punch then drill out the rest of the rivet with a 1/4 " drill, CAUTION: Be careful NOT to enlarge the rivet holes with the drill......Next, remove the rivets and nuts that secure the regulator, take the regulator out. Installation is the reverse of removal with the following additions: A) The regulator rivets can be replaced with 1/4-20 x 1/2 inch bolts, nuts and washers or metric equivalents and B) Raise and lower the window several times to check operation before installing the watershield and trim panel.

Hope that this helps and if you need further help, please do not hesitate to ask. I apologize for taking so long to get back to you but I had a bit of an accident and had trouble seeing the computer screen for a few days. Good luck.

Ken
