Honda Repair: 1989 accord headlights, acura integras, honda civics

Question
When the light switch is turned on, the low beams will not come on. If you hit the high beam switch, they come on just fine. The wires at the switch are too small to directly carry the load, is there a relay somewhere? thanks

Answer
Jeff, honestly i do not know the answer to that question with 100% certainity. And my books tell me nothing about a relay anywhere. But, there is a relay for the pop-up motors for the headlights. There are fuses for the headlights but usually the high beam would not work as well. Can you check those just in case. I know in the Honda Civics and the Acura Integras from 1988 - 1992 there is no relays controlling the headlights.

Your actual arm on the steering column with the headlight switch could be defective. And is most likely the cause of the problem. Simple to replace and you can find these in junk yards from around $10-20 used. Uninstall there's so you can get an idea of how to remove the one in your vehicle. Tools needed - flat-tip screwdriver, phillips screwdriver, 4-way lug-nut removal (t-bar), needle nose plyers (maybe). Remove the steering wheel. The rest is self-explanatory as long as you are somewhat mechanically inclined.
