Honda Repair: 1990 accord lx stalls, transmission control unit, first cap

Question
Hopefully someone can tell me what to do first. I have a 1990 accord lx. I beleive its a stock 2.2 sohc 4banger with 187k miles.. I just recently bought it, and Im new to the honda game.

So, its stalling out while driving. Seems to run fine, rev fine and idles fine while sitting. After its warm, if you give it gas, a check engine light turns on, and she stalls. I took it on highway, and as I was doing 65 or 70mph it just stalls out again, sometimes. I pull over... crank, crank, sit... 5 mins, and then she will start up and drive again. I know I have to put on a new distributor, and rotor, and ignitor, that is in the works... could my issue also be fuel pump? Or possibly this ecu under dash?? Im lost on what to repair first.. cap? ecu.. filter and pump.. please help.

Possibly related... it seems that I have no first gear... only sometimes I feel it kick down into first and pull away great, but most of the time it feels like its stuck in 3rd or 4th when I pull away from a light. No lights on dash are on ever.. only the check engine light, and oil light when it stalls.. If I manually put it in first gear, it feels like second does... and I only feel it shift once... which makes me think there is no 4th gear... When im driving, doing about 70, the tach reads almost 3.5k rpms... is this normal for 4th gear or 3rd?

~Thanks

Answer
Danny, 187K and a lack of maintenance = start replacing parts. Whichever when the car stalls it will throw a check engine code. Evaluate the code on the spot. Keep a pen and paper in the car. Also you can evaluate the check engine codes on this vehicle with a paperclip and internet access for diagnosis of the check engine light (CEL). The CEL will tell you what exactly the car is having an issue with and will guide you in the right direction for repair.

The transmission fluid needs to be flushed. Who knows when this was done last. Start here with the transmission issues. Also evaluate the transmission control unit for codes too.
