Honda Repair: 1992 Accord EX intermittent stalling, honda accord ex, obd 1

Question
We own a 1992 Honda Accord EX with @ 165,000 miles.  Recently, it has exhibited an intermittent stalling problem.  After starting easily and driving normally for several miles it suddenly begins to run rough for a few seconds and then stalls completely and will not re-start.  After waiting for about thirty minutes it will re-start easily and run normally.   It can be several days before another stalling episode occurs. I would appreciate any suggestions you might have on how to diagnose the cause of this problem without having to drive the vehicle until it stalls again. (leaving my daughter stranded in traffic)

Answer
Ben, evaluate the CEL (check engine codes). I can guarantee there is more than one that are stored in the vehicles ECU (computer bank) and will definitely point you in the right direction if not precisely. You have an OBD-1 diagnostics system. (1996 OBD-2) So a code reader would be helpful. About $50. AutoZone usually only has OBD-2 code readers but might be worth a shot if close to your home. You can also scan them in your own garage for free and then google them for what they are. Let me know in a follow-up question if you would like me to explain to you how.
