Honda Repair: 96 Civic DX, civic dx, fuel pumps

Question
Sometimes when in the am, the car will sputter when I am pressing the gas petal.  It doesn't happen all the time.  The car has over 230k miles.  Just had oil change and all spark plugs replaced.  Is my fuel filter or fuel pump going out?

Answer
Windy, I would suspect the fuel filter. But, more than that finish the tune-up that you started by replacing the sprak plug wires, distributor cap, distributor rotor, air filter and have the timing adjusted. When these 1.5L and 1.6L engines get above 150K tune-ups become more frequent. I would recommend every 30K. Fuel pumps go out around 120K with your milage coming up too 240K I would replace this vital component in the next 10K. Also if you dont use Premium or Super unleaded on a regular basis try a fuel additive once a month. I prefer Lucas brand fuel treatment.
