Honda Repair: A/C compressor will not engage, honda crx, 1991 honda crx

My 1991 Honda CRX was not blowing cold air so I tried to add a can of r-12 to the system. The car was running and the compressor was working at the time. I couldn't get any r-12 into the system. I released some pressure from the "high" side port to see what would happen. When I released some pressure, the compressor stoped. Now I can't get the compressor to engage. The fuse is good, and the condensor fan is working, any idea's? Thanks

Gary, it is time to replace the compressor pump. Compressors are full of oil to lubricate internal components. Unfortunately they don't last forever. Replace the pump. Or there might be a rebuild kit available or you can remove the pump and take it in for a rebuild too? Is the belt on there and working?
