Honda Repair: 1988 honda accord alternator replace, auto parts stores, honda accord

Question
what is best & easiest way to replace? is there more than one way? if so, what are they.

Answer
Lee, depends on which Honda Accord you have? The LX or LX-i. Carberated vs. injected. LX-i is easiest. Just remove the alternator from underneath the car but it comes out the top of the intake manifold/head area of the vehicle. Might require moving some plastic air intake pieces. LX is more difficult. Remove the alternator from underneath the vehicle. Then remove 2 of the engine cradle bolts a little bit not all the way. Allowing you to use a pry bar to flex down the cradle to allow the alternator to slip through an open area between the lower firewall and some suspension/power steering components.

Whichever this is not an easy replacement for the novice. Takes a couple hours and some patience.

Verify you have the right alternator before removing and installing. The main plug on the alternator is different between the LX and LX-i. Auto parts stores are notorious for selling you the wrong unit.
