Lincoln/Mercury Repair: Mercury Tracer 93 AC leak, mercury tracer, dye test

Question
The dye test for AC leaks was negative in the engine compartment.  The dealer now thinks it is under the dash which takes 6 hours to remove the dash and replace the evaporator/hoses if this is the problem.  Total job with parts is $1100!  Can one get in there without removing the dash to first check for leaks.  Beyond this, what do you recommend.  I have removed interior trim before so I have some experience.

Answer
Hi Robert,

First, get it the hell out of the dealer and find a guy that specializes in auto a/c. Dealers are pretty good at filling tires and washer fluid so they should just stick with that. $1100... My gosh. I really dislike when I read about people getting shiested.
