Honda Repair: 1995 4dr 4cyl Honda LX Transmission, honda accord lx, shift linkage

Question
I Bought A White 1995 Honda Accord LX 4cyl. It Was Not Running When I Bought It. A Man That Works On Cars And Is A Friend Of The Family Said That All It Needed Was A Transmission. He Put In The Transmission And Drove It Around The Block Until It Shut Off. He Said The Sensor Was Blinking. He Tried About 8 Other Sensors And Said They Did The Same Thing And Also Caused The Same Problem. He Called Me Today And Said That It May Be The Converter. I Just Want To Know If You Have Any Suggestions As Of Wat To Do.

Answer
Robert, I would love to have the power to say 'oh, this is the only thing that needs to be fixed', unfortunately there is reality. Before attempting to diagnose problems on a Honda there are lots of different diagnostic steps to perform. He could be right though? Maybe all the car needed was a transmission. But, did he install the transmission correctly and with 100% certainity mechanically? These transmissions can be tricky. I have installed 100's personally and still encounter unforseen problems. Has the mechanic made all the right adjustments? Like throttle kick down cable and shift linkage. You must know what you are doing before attempting these first steps in the process. Quit swapping sensors and throwing money out the window. The transmission has a check engine light as well? Has the mechanic diagnosed these and any other check engine codes thoroughly? Start there and work through the OBD-1 system (On-board Diagnostics.) It is not the converter btw... Oldest trick in the book.
