Honda Repair: 2001 hinda civic auto trans, torque converters, torque converter


Question
What would cause my neices trans to stop working with no symtoms prior.If I shut the engine down and wait 5 mins and restart the car will drive fine for a few mile b4 it just disengages all together.I had to repeat this process of stopping and turning engine off waiting 5 mins restarting and driveing to be able to get it home.It does not slip jerk or shudder at all when it is in gear.Im at a loss.Thx for ur help

Ricci, torque converter failed you. You could try flushing the transmission fluid and replacing with Honda ATF. But, will probably be a waste of money. Unfortunately you have to remove the entire transmission to do this. Meaning $$$ labor wise. Remanufactured/rebuilt torque converters are fairly inexpensive. Only use Honda ATF from now on as well.
