Land Rover Repair: Defender wont start, inertia switch, starter wire

Question
it doesn't even crank, radio, lights, air and all other "stuff" will come on but no crank.

i have a 94 Defender 90 that won't start...i've had the battery checked, it's fine and completly recharged and still nothing. Should i check fuses next?  inertia switch?  which i can't find...heellllpppp.  It hadn't been started in a bout 3 weeks but that's never been a problem before.  This is actually my hubby's car, who is deployed and i'm trying to get it ready for him to come home.

Answer
The first step should be measurement of the battery voltage when you try and crank it.  You need more than 10.5 volt when cranking, and 12v before cranking, for the starter to work right.

If you have that, measure the voltage getting to the starter. You need to see battery voltage at the big bolt-on lug and at the smaller push on terminal.

If you have voltage both places bang the starter with a hammer and see if it cranks, if not, you need a new one.

If you do not have battery voltage at the smaller starter wire you'll need to progress back in the wire harness - possibly the ignition switch or starter safety switch.

Your most likely problem is a bad starter or bad wiring from the battery
