Honda Repair: 1992 Honda Accord ignition Module Failure, temple of vtec, honda accord ex

Question
Hello,

I have a 1992 Honda Accord EX with the F20A engine. The car has had three ignition modules installed in the past three years and it appears now that we may need another one as it is beginning malfunction again (e.g. engine cutting out periodically). I am wondering if there could be something else that is causing the modules to fail so often?

The first time we had it replaced the mechanic said that the heat sink was not properly installed which caused the failure. Some other factors are that we recently had the timing belt and water pump replaced. Also the ignition module seems to go when the weather gets cold and we start to use the heater/defroster alot.

If you have any insights on this problem we would greatly appreciate it. Thank  you very much.

Sincerely,
Joe A

Answer
Joe, having replaced the ignition module 3 times makes me wonder if there is an underlying issue elsewhere. So I did some research online and came across your question and thread on another site called the "temple of vtec" or whatever. Anyways there were no replies too. No worries. Have you replaced your distributor completely yet? And did the ignition modules you purchased come with a warranty? Were they from a local auto parts store? I think you bought a poor quality aftermarket part. Replace the ignition module with a new one from Honda. If problem still persists replace the distributor.
