Honda Repair: 1992 honda civic cx 1.5 sohc poor idle, honda civic cx, spark plug wires

Question
QUESTION: My 92 civic cx has recently come up with a problem I can't figure out. When idling it wants to stall and runs poorly. Above idle is fine until I give it too much gas then it wants to stall. It misfires at idle and was blowing out a white/grey smoke but now the smoke is black. The smoke stops when I'm driving but starts again after idling. I have cleaned the IACV and the FITV( I can't remember what its called) and changed the pcv valve. The vacuum line that goes to the pcv valve keeps collapsing in towards the manifold. I know I need to change my spark plug wires because one is messed up. When I pulled out the spark plugs all of them were black but dry. I asked a friend who has a similar civic but he's never had this problem. I'm at a total loss it has me frustrated I love my car and need it so anything will be helpful. Thank you.

ANSWER: Ashley, start by fixing the known problems that are wrong. Spark plug wires and spark plugs are a key part to driving these Honda's. And, is included in a tune-up. Along with Distributor cap and distributor rotor. Fuel filter as well. Eventually that fuel pump is gonna fail you too. they fail between 120k to 160k. Super easy to replace. The vacuum line that is collapsing near the PCV needs to be replaced too. White/grey smoke = water/moisture being burnt in the combustion chamber. Blue/black smoke = oil being burnt in the combustion chamber. How many miles are on the car? 120k+ i would assume. Whichever Honda's don't run forever especially when a lot of owners neglect the vehicle due to lack of knowledge. Tune-ups should be performed every 30k when the car reaches 100k. When you have replaced all of these components give me a follow-up and let me know how it is going...

QUESTION: So far we've done some more research and the car has started to get a little better. We pulled out the coal canister to make sure it had no fuel in it. It didn't but a lot of dirt no idea why. The idle was doing good today but we noticed the car is going through gas quicker. Any ideas on that. Also would a bad coolant sensor keep the car on a constant cold level on the thermostat. Ours is staying level but I did notice that even after repeatedly turning the car on and off for an hour running checks on what we were doing the fan didn't kick on. Any more ideas would help thanks. Were changing the fuel filter too.

Answer
A sensor will not cause a problem with the temperature of the coolant. Thermostats are the most notorious for that. And, not bleeding all of the bubbles out of the system as well. Why the fans are not kicking on is due to the fact that the car is below the optimal coolant operating range. Water pumps can go out on these too from time to time.
