Honda Repair: 94 civic will not start, fuel, timing

Question
QUESTION: 94 honda civic ex 1.6L.. driving down the road, it would shut off. it would start back up after cranking it over a few times. than  a few days later, it would only start cold and run for about 2 min than shut off. now it will not start at all. im getting fuel, that is not a problem. i pulled the wires off the distributor cap and im getting spark there. so its not the cap, rotor or any of that. timing belt is still there so im pretty sure thats not the the problem either. . . what do i do!

ANSWER: Tom, has to be fuel. Fuel pump has to be failing you. When you turn the key to the on position do you hear the fuel pump? Hard to hear it but if you listen you should be able to hear it. If this is not the problem i would consider this an electrical issue. Other than that if you can provide me more information i can provide you with more information on where to go? Like specifically what the car is doing when it is shutting down on you? Do you have lights on the dash, power, etc.

QUESTION: Yes the fuel pump is kickin on.. I pulled the spark plugs out to make sure theyre at .043 and the plugs definetly had fuel on them. all the dash lights work, the check engine light turns off after about two sec when the fuel pump stops humming.. when  i was driving it a week ago, the motor just stop running.. than after sitting there and starting it, it would fire up and i would drive off like nothing happen! than it was sitting in my driveway the other night idling and it just stopped again. but this time it wont start back up. thankfully it did this in my driveway. everything seems to be checking out ok thats why i dont know what to do! please let me know what else you think because im totally stumped! thanks

Answer
Tom, wish i was there to listen to it with my own ears. If you are getting fuel and spark that leaves only one other option. Timing. It is possible you jumped a tooth or 2 which is not uncommon with these civics above 120K miles. Make sure timing is set to TDC and adjusted properly. Other than that you could have a bad ECU? But, doubtful. Are you sure there is no check engine codes? In my opinion though what you are describing is a bad fuel pump. Hope this helps you.
