Honda Repair: Honda Civic security system, honda civic ex, circuit city

Question
My 1997 Honda Civic EX has an aftermarket Alpine tape deck.  I couldn’t find the aftermarket wire harness so I cut the wires behind the Alpine deck and hooked up a Kenwood deck.  The deck would not work and my keyless entry would no longer work.  They guy who owned the car before me said that Circuit City installed an Alpine deck and left the Honda stock deck behind the Alpine deck to control the Honda stock alarm.

So how do I get my new Kenwood deck and keyless entry to work?

Answer
Jamey, this is very common to find in these cars. And they did leave it on purpose so the keyless entry would still retain its function. However, you are having some wiring issues. Since I don't know where exactly you cut and spliced into the wires back there I can't tell you what to do based upon a lack of information. If you can afford it take it back to Circuit City and tell them to repair the issue since they originally did the install. Otherwise you are going to lose the keyless entry function. But, purchasing an aftermarket alarm system will be able to utilize this feature, (keyless entry.) Other than that I know of no other way to retain its function.
