Car Alarms: Alarm or something else?, mechanic shop, electrical shortages

Question
Several months ago, I began to notice that the headlights/brake lights on my 02 Navigator would blink off and on throughout the night and possibly the door locks disengage.  No pattern, just sporadic but consistent.  Today I awoke to a dead battery (knew this was only a matter of time)  After talking to 2 of our go-to mechanics who suggested taking it to the dealership (who I also spoke with and they said they'd never heard of this before) I called another mechanic shop this morning.  He said it sounds to him as though it could be the alarm.  From what the previous owner said, there are 2 alarms...factory and then after-market Python.  We do hear what sounds like electrical shortages (clicking/popping) of some kind going on behind the dash while driving the vehicle and the radio (factory) gets extremely hot to the touch after a few minutes.  Does any of this sound familiar with anyone?  This mechanic suggested car stereo/alarm dealership and they charge just to take radio out and look.  Really would rather not waste time and still not sure whether this is related to the alarm or bad sensor (which I've read are really common in Navigators due to the seal on the windshield loosening over time and allowing moisture to get in).
