Honda Repair: 1997 civic trans problem, catastrophic consequences, fifth gear

I bought a 1997 civic with a bad transmission. Fifth gear is out.  It allows me to shift the lever to fifth, but there is nothing there. Its like its in neutral.  Any possible fixes apart from replacement?

Darrell, there are no possible fixes to this problem besides replacement. Remember, the more you drive this car the more wear and tear you are putting on that fifth gear and catastrophic consequences could occur. Anything from Transmission seizure to detonation! So, be careful driving this car. And if you continue to drive the car replace the Transmission fluid which will help the longevity.
