Honda Repair: REAR MAIN SEAL REPLACEMENT, seal replacement, time alan

Question
I am considering buying a 1995 civic ex with a D16Z6 vtec motor in it. But the rear main seal is leaking, according to the ower it started leaking because it sat for a long time and it dried up. How hard/difficult is to this. Also should I be concerned and that something else went bad because of the leaky seal?

Thanks for your time

Answer
Alan, with any motor, seal replacement can be very costly and difficult to repair. You should also consider replacing all the seals if this is the case at hand. The car is worth the repair but, a complete engine replacement would be my recommendation vs. the rebuild. You should also be able to part out the old motor and retain some of the money you spend on purchasing a used engine.
