Honda Repair: 88 hatchback starting problems, cold air intake, ground terminal

Question
I bought an 88 civic hatchback it has cold air intake(may be part of the problem or not don't know) it fires up in the morning but then I drive maybe till it gets hot then when I turn it off  it won't turn on till it cools down , sometimes if I take off the negative wire from the batt. for a couple of minutes then replace it fires right up. The batt. Checked good. Could it be the starter or something else.

Answer
no when you say it gets hot, do you mean its overheating? or just regular running tempature. and when you try to start it does it turn over or you don't get anything? a common problem with older Hondas is the ground wire coupler on the battery is still too big for the terminal even after completely tightening... usually when its not making a good enough connection after prolong driving you get a click when you turn the key and thats it... i don't know if that is what your experiencing or if your car actually turns over just doesn't fire.. if it just makes a click and doesn't turn over replace your ground terminal coupler. 2.00$ at wal-mart. let me know if that is not the symptoms you are experiencing.
