Honda Repair: Leak 2000 Honda CRV, screw holes, drain holes

Question
I have water dripping from the screw holes holding the base of the blower motor on the passenger side floor board when I go through a car wash or heavy rain.  I think I have isolated the problem when I spray water from the top between the hood and windshield.  Is there a easy answer, is it a specific seal that may need replacing of could some debris from trees or bushes that could have clogged some drain holes?  Please let me know if you may have some kind of solution.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Karl,

It sounds to me like the seal at the top of the cowl screen is torn or missing. There should be a rubber seal that seals when the hood is closed keeping water from entering the fresh air vents at the cowl. If you pop the hood you will see a plastic grate like piece just under the window. That is the cowl. That is where fresh air enters the vehicles cabin when you have the climate control set to fresh. There should be a rubber strip going across the top of the cowl close to the windshield that seals when the hood is closed. If it is not sealing than either the seal is damaged/missing or the hood is out of adjustment. Has the vehicle been in an accident recently? Maybe the hood was not adjusted/installed properly. Anyway this is the area where I belive your problem lies. There is a drain in the evaporator case but I would look at the seal because it only happens when it rains. I have also seen sunroof drains stop up as well if your vehicle is equipped with one but they won't leak at the blower. Hope this helps good luck and let me know the outcome. Please feel free to contact me in the future if have any other questions. Have a great day!
