Honda Repair: 1990 Honda front end wobble, wheel drive cars, rear wheel drive cars

Question
I had just come back from about an hour and a half drive (at better than Los Angeles Hwy speeds), when I noticed a wobble on my steering wheel whenever I accelerated (with a slight pull to the right).

I hadn't noticed it at the higher speeds, but as I hit traffic and had to slow down, the wobble was very apparent.

My Civic DX (hatchack) has a 5 speed manual transmission.  Again, the wobble only occurred whenever I accelerated.  As soon as I took my foot off the gas, the wobble disappeared, which leads me to think it's in the transmission.

As I exited the hwy, and stopped for a few minutes at a light, after which I made a 90 degree left turn.  The wobble disappeared completely after that, but, I could hear a "clicking" sound coming from the front end as I accelerated.  The rate of the click was not influenced by whatever gear I was in.

I just drove the car (after two days of letting it rest) for a short distance, and, neither the wobble nor the click was evident.

I'm still thinking the transmission.  Is there a way for me to check the fluid level?  I know American rear wheel drive cars, but, this Honda front wheel drive is a strange beast.

Answer
John, it sounds like your cv axles are going bad, look under  each tire and see if there are any signs of grease leakage or splatter if so  do replace asap. Also you may want to consider getting a balance done, but check the condition of tires before doing this, it defeats the purpose if you do a balance wit worn tires. let me know the results...... Also check the condition of your brake rotors, could be warped  and needs to be resurfaced
