Honda Repair: 93 Honda Civic, haynes repair manuals, pumping gas

Question
My daughter's Honda is having the same problem as some of these others I've seen.  She drives it and it's fine - then she goes to get gas and it won't start.  So far she's only been having trouble (seems like when it's warmed up good) it won't start - wait about 15 minutes and it starts OK - until tonight. Now she says it's dieing while it's running.  Her dad replaced the fuel relay about 18 months ago. I don't know what else he did if anything. Would you suggest maybe fuel filter if it hasn't been changed or would it be something else?  Appreciate your responses if you can.
Thanks.

Answer
i would try replacing the fuel pump. they can be purchased at walmart for $20. if the same problems consist, it sounds like the fuel pump is going out. has she ever run it on complete empty? when there is no fuel in the tank, it can ruin the pump. the pump uses gas to lubricate the pump. im not sure if this problem is the pump but it wouldnt hurt to replace it anyway. especially if you have more than 150k miles on the car. if you purchase a repair manual such as Haynes Repair Manuals, they show detailed instructions with picures on how to do this yourself. if either of those dont fix the problem, it could be that the relay is in wrong and the motor is constantly pumping gas into the engine and it floods it and it wont start. when the car is sitting and the key is off can you pop the hood and still hear a small whining sound?  does it smell like gas? if so you need to adjust the fuel relay. that is all i could think of. hope this helps.
