Honda Repair: 91 accord check engine light, fuel air mixture, transmission control unit

Question
i had to replace the ecu because it had water damage as well as the tcu. water got into the floor board area during katrina, but not high enough to get into the engine or trans. but it did get into the ecu and tcm. i did replace the ecm and the tcm with the same numbers and am 100% positive that they were the correct replacements.also i flushed the fuel system. and I have noticed the fuel economy went way down, drinking fuel.

-----Question-----
I have a 91 accord with a AT. It has 120,000 miles. I recently had a no start problem and end results were the replacement of the ecu and the distributor. car ran fine untill about two weeks later. very poor accleration untill the check engine comes on. Once the light comes on, it runs great. if you sit until the light comes on it does just fine.
I have changed the plugs, wires, new dist, ecu, tcu, fuel filter/air filter.
any suggestions would be great.
thanks mark

Are you sure you have the right ecu? Why was it replaced? Unplug the negative terminal for 30 minutes and it should reset. The TCU? That is the transmission control unit. Did you mean throttle control valve or throttle body sensor, the black plug on the back of the throttle body? Usually on those you have to get it calibrated. It doesn't help to just replace that. You usually have to replace the whole throttle body. Right now it doesn't know how to regulate the fuel to air mixture. Try plugging in your old ecu and see if that doesn't correct it. Those really never need replacing unless you swap the engine. I would recommend going to a Honda dealership where they can read out your check engine code and calibrate your tbs.

Answer
your oxygen sensor could be bad. usually if they get wet they are done for. they are located on the bottom of the exhaust manifold. this would be throwing it off. it tries to run the fuel/air mixture and cant so the ecu automatically bypasses the o2 sensor, thus the engine light comes on and it runs smooth. if you went to a Honda dealership or a certified Honda mechanic shop they could tell you right away by reading your check engine light code. changing an oxygen sensor can be costly and if that isn't the problem i would hate for you to spend all that money and still have the same issues. any Honda dealership or cert Honda shop will have the right equipment to read the codes.
