Honda Repair: Civic HX 1997, cvt transmissions, negative battery cable

Question
Just purchased a used 1997 civic hx with auto/cvt and 118K miles.  Great car, but a little quirky.  I have several questions to know the car better and I hope you can help...
1) CVT tranny tends to struggle at low speeds until it catches up around 40 mph.  Normal?
2) Car tends to "jerk" (like a manual when not enough clutch or gas at low speeds) during speeds under 7mph.
3) AC tends to randomly get warm; but can "reset" that by restarting the car.  Freon great and good pressure.  Cools great after restarting...
4) Only getting 31 mpg in mixed driving.  I changed plugs with iridium and K&N filter to hopefully improve performance/efficiency.  Unplugged negative battery cable to reset ECU to adjust to new plugs and filter.  Anything wrong?
5) Longevity of CVT; it appears that if taken care of, it lasts a long time.  What kind I do to help maintain the tranny and the car?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm trying to get to know the car so I can keep it a long time.  It's my first Honda and I can see why these cars lasts.  Thanks for your insight and expert advice.

Answer
CVT transmissions are no good, the car has been thrashed and the tranny is tired, to tune car performance turn the brass screw anit clockwise 1/4 of a turn, This is located on the throttle body, remember to do this when the negative lead is off so the ECU reconises these changes, You can do a tranny oil change but i dont think this will help.

Hope ive been of some help
