Motorcycle Repair: cbr valve springs, natural harmonics, dual springs

Question
Hi, I am rebuilding a 92 cbr 600 and found that I have 2 valve springs per valve. (inner and outer).  while researching replacement valve springs I found that in '97, honda switched their 600 head to a single valve spring set up. also, as you may know, the cbr f2 and f3 are very similar. I guess just need to know why changing to a single spring would help, what I should put in the head I am rebuilding, and would it even work with the head im using? thanks for any help you could lend. erk.

Answer
Eric, my experience is on older Honda but in general, the springs are tuned for each application.  The inner spring is often added to dampen the natural harmonics of the valve train. If your set up uses dual springs, removing the inner one would not be a good idea.  You will want to stay with springs engineered for your set up.
