Honda Repair: 2004 Civic LX alternator, civic lx, indicator light

Question
The battery light on the dash comes on and flashes intermittently for a minute or two after I start my 65,000-mile 2004 Civic LX. The shop that does my routing oil changes said today that it s a bad alternator. I m certainly no expert, but doesn t a honda alternator typically last longer than 2 years/65,000 miles? Could it be something else? The car starts fine and nothing seems to be malfunctioning - the indicator light is the only thing. If it is the alternator how do I replace?

Answer
Most Honda alternators last a very long time but I have replaced a few Civic alternators over the last few months.  Not quite sure why.  Have someone else test the alternator before you condemn it.  I would strongly recommend getting the factory alternator before you go after an aftermarket one.  Never had much luck with an aftermarket and a car that new may be hard to find.  You have to remove the p/s pump and the bolts out of the alternator to get it off.
