Honda Repair: 1994 Accord Manual Transmission Trouble, honda dealer, accord lx

Question
Craig...I have a 1994 Accord LX 5 spd 4 door..90k miles...Its a builder that sat for about 2 years before I began driving it...All was fine until after about 40k miles the trany started making terrible noise....finally quit...NO gears!!!! I R & R and installed a used tranny 80k on it...all was good for 4 mos. same thing!!! I removed the tranny and disassembled...The Main gear cluster is stripped on both trannys? I assumed the "pilot" bearing/bushing had failed me and I forgot to check on the first install...I could not find a pilot bearing! Can't even find one at the local Honda dealer? What gives? No pilot on this model? If not what the heck is chewing up these trannies? I have lowering springs on this car but does not appear to be ANY interference with the tranny...HELP! Please & thanks...Kevin H.

Answer
The pilot bearing is in the flywheel and not serviceable.  If that were to go bad, you wouldn't be able to shift at all because the trans would continue to spin after you pushed in the clutch.  Either the trans was low on fluid or you are doing something with your driving that is causing the trans to go bad.  Also its possible that you got a bad transmission.  Nothing that I can think of would cause the trans to go bad.
