Honda Repair: 1991 Honda Accord Engine Shut Off While Driving, infrequent times, honda accord

Question
Rick,

In the past month there have been infrequent times that my Honda would barely start, as if the battery was dying. It would happen one day and then I wouldn't have a problem with it the next 30, 40, or 50 starts, then it would do it again. Anyway, today while I was driving the car the engine just shut down. I tried to restart it to no avail. Could you give me some ideas what the problem might be? I had someone jump the car off and it still wouldn't start.

Answer
Juan, It's likely two different issues. As far as being hard too start is it that it cranks slow or cranks for a long time before starting? As far as the no start check to see if you have spark, remove a plug and ground it on the eng. block, have someone crank and watch for spark, if none it could be a few things, the most likely would be the igniter which I've seen many times. When you cycle the key listen for the fuel pump. If you remove the plugs and they are wet its not a fuel concern. If the engine spins really fast it maybe a timing belt, hope this helps, RICK
