Honda Repair: SRS Light, mazatlan mexico, honda accord ex

Question
I have a 1997 Honda Accord EX Wagon, 4-Cyl V-Tech engine and am living in Mazatlan, Mexico.  The Honda dealer here will not even look at it since it is from the US.  The owners manual states that an SRS inspection should be done when the car is 10 years old.  The car was make in April and the light started staying on in April when 9 years old.  Could that be the problem, the light is set to stay on around 10 years?  If so, how do you reset it?  If not, how do I get the light off since it cannot be worked on here?  Would it be best to disable the system?  If yes, how is that done?

Answer
Tim, this is a sensitive issue. The light is on because of a fault found. You won't know what fault if nobody's willing to pull a code. The light won't come on after 9-10 years as a reminder for the decade inspection. To reset it would do nothing as the light will return until the fault is repaired. I'm sorry but as far as disabling it that's definitely not an option(illegal). I would try contacting HONDA of America and see if they can pull some strings for you down there and find you someone who can help. Good luck, RICK
