Honda Repair: Radio cuts out, continuity check, radio connector

Question
1990 Hondo Civic approx 79,000mi Buffalo, NY
When you turn the radio on it plays for various lengths of time until all sound stops.  Sometimes sound can be brought on again by turning the volume up, or hitting the radio consoule. Sometimes after doing this it only stays on for a few seconds, sometimes minutes unitl it cuts out again. Also there is no sound in the passenger side speaker.  Is the problem with the speakers, the wiring to the speakers, or with the radio unit?  Any insight will be very helpful.  Thank you.

Answer
Zak if the radio is cutting out and the display is still O.K. I would suspect the radio unit is faulty and will need replacement. Make sure you check the connection and condition of pins at the back of the radio. No sound out of one speaker could be the radio, an open wire(possibly in door harness at flex point) or a bad connection. A continuity check from the radio connector to the speaker will tell you whats going on. RICK
