Honda Repair: Honda Civic 96 1500 Lsi, black pyramid, long journey

Question
My Honda Civic doesn't tick over smoothly at the moment when stationary in traffic (is this what you call idling?).
The car vibrates a little and feels like the engine is about to cut out, but so far it hasn't quite done that!
Want to do a long journey soon but am not sure whether to risk it even though I have breakdown recovery.
Any suggestions? I would be very grateful for your help, many thanks.

Answer
2 things..

-it could probably use a fuel injection cleaning and carbon cleaning (the TB plate, idle screw, and idle control motor screen)

-it also likely has mounts that are broken or sagging.
get a friend to help you and it is easy to check.
get in and start it, put it in gear and hold the brake with your left foot. have your friend watch the engine while you give it a little gas. do this in Drive and Reverse. the motor should only twist a little. if it moves a lot or lifts up, then it needs that mount. the one at the drivers side, close to the fender, is the one that gives the most vibration when it goes out. it looks like a little round black pyramid, but might be covered some if you have cruise control.

you could just use a general tune up. there is a major service due at 90k miles. which includes the plugs/cap/rotor and belts.
(the timing belt is also due, which is something you dont want to put off).
same thing if you are close to 180k.
