My 98 CRV with auto tans,1120,000km,she has problem which I call"early downshift". When I just do normal accelaration, the tans downshift to 1st gear, engine rpm rises to 3000 or higher. I have to ease my gas pedal a little bit , than she runs ok.This type down shift only happens when I do heavy accelaration accoding to my previous experience. It seems that the down shift point has been advanced.
Thanks

Derek, it sounds like you may be experiencing Grade Logic Control which avoids gear hunting on uphills and descents, and downshifts for added engine braking. The system can make you believe theres a concern when really thats the way the system operates. As a CR-V owner I can relate. When I'm on a very slight incline the trans won't shift until it's perfectly flat. It'll hold 3-4000 rpm during the incline. If you're that concerned let your dealer test drive the vehicle too verify thats whats happening. Just another quick thought, if it's happening when the engines cold thats because the PCM wants too warm up the CAT fast so it delays up-shifting to keep the RPM's up and in turn, warm up the cat and reduce emissions. You  mentioned about Grade Logic Control which manages  the gear shifting
to hold on lower gears to  avoid the gear hunting. I am experiencing that
kick down point is too advanced  and trans hold on low gear too long  with moderate accelaratin. Is there some thing wrong on Logic Grade Control?  and what part may need to be replaced ? I am auto mechnic mostly working on VW,Volvoand,BMW,lack of experience of CR-V, but I am trying to solve this problem by myself. I really appreciate your help. Thank you very much!

Answer
Derek, the grade logic system is really sensitive and can give you a reason to believe something is wrong. I find they all hold a lower gear too long when the grade logic is contolling shift points. I think its operating correctly. You're best bet is to have a HONDA dealer try it and see if its an issue. RICK
