Isuzu Repair: 1993 Isuzu Pickup wont start, spark plug wire, resistance of the wire

Question
I checked for continuity on the coil to distributor wire (ohms).  It had no continuity so I bought a new wire and it has no continuity either (apparently I am doing this wrong.  I also bought the tester and put in th coil wire to ground.  It had no spark between the two points in the tester.  I also put it in the spark plug wire to ground and had no spark.  Do you think it's the coil?

-----Question-----
2.3L 4 cylinder was heating up so changed a hose with a hole in it.  It now won't start and doesn't seem to be getting any spark to the plugs.  There is 12.5 volts going from the coil to the top of the distributor. The distributor cap looks clean and the rotor has little wear.  Any suggestions?
-----Answer-----
Does the starter engage, or does it do nothing at all. Also, you may have already done this but I have to ask, did you check the resistance of the wire itself going from the distributor to the coil? You can buy a small cheap device from an auto parts store that you can plug into each wire to test for a spark. You plug it in and it has two electrodes. Have someone try to start the car and watch the two electrodes to see if a spark comes between them. Someone at the store should know what I'm talking about. Send me a follow up with the answers to the above questions, and by then I'll have the wiring schematics pulled out and I'll walk you through the possible causes for your problem.

Answer
Hello again. Sorry for the delay in response (I was gone for the holidays) First of all, you forgot to answer if the starter engages or not. I am assuming it does. It is possible that the coil is defective, because even though energy can pass through it, that doesn't mean it can hold energy. The coil must deliver several kilovolts of energy to a spark plug for it to ignite the fuel. Try seeing if a local shop can test the coil. As far as testing the wires, you are testing for resistance (Ohms). A reading of zero for resistance is the best reading you can get.

Try having the coil tested at a local shop. They should do it either free or dirt cheap.

Let me know how it goes.

Best of luck!!!
