Honda Repair: sometimes starts, sometimes doesnt, ebensburg pa, honda prelude

Question
My car is a 92 honda prelude si 102,000mi... Anyways, sometimes my car starts and sometimes it wont. At first it only seemed to happened when it rained, then it started doing it when the weather was warm (summer). I have had it to several garages, including the honda garage and had it run many times on the computer. I have had all new plugs, replaced the distributor, and no one seems to know what the problem is... Please help me, I am afraid to drive the car anywhere and shut it off for fear of it not starting. The car will start after it sits for awhile, anywhere from 10 min. to a day. I have not replaced the main relay switch, or have had the cars starter checked when hot. I am going broke taking it to different garages and buying parts, and the problem is still there. No one is able to find the problem and I would very much appreciate any advice you can offer.  Thank you so much... Please get back to me ASAP!  Teresa L.  I live in Ebensburg, Pa.

Answer
Hi Teresa, This is a problem I have seen quite often, mainly in Accords but it can throw alot of techs for a loop. Here's what you do, and it may sound funny. When the car doesn't start, turn the ignition to on, just before crank and watch the mil(check engine light). It comes on for approx. 2 seconds then goes out. When it goes out you should hear a little click at the exact same time it goes out. If you don't it is definitely the main relay which is supposed to activate the fuel pump. If it doesn't start cool off the relay for 10 minutes by leaving the doors open and try again, you don't have to crank every time just listen for the click and it will start. The part number you will need is 39400SS0003. If you need more info or if this doesn't solve it please let me know so I can help you from draining your account, RICK
