Honda Repair: 1997 Honda Accord, honda accord, dash lights

Question
I have a 1997 Honda Accord SE, 75,500 miles. In the morning when I would start it, it would lag a little bit, but I figured it was because of the cold, still ran fine though. One morning I went to start it and the dash would just light up when i moved the key and make a clicking noise. Tried jumping it, recharged the battery and nothing. I tried later on that night and it would still make the clicky noise and the dash lights would dim now. I'm thinking I need to replace the starter, but I'm hearing it could also be the alternator. Would would make my car just not start?

Kerri:
I would have the battery checked to make sure it is okay. The alternator would not keep your car from starting if the battery is good, it would not run for very long with a bad alternator. My bet is you will find the starter is bad. You can have someone tap on the starter with a screwdriver while someone else turns the key, if it starts your starter is toast.
Good luck.
