Honda Repair: timing belt, routine service, 1989 honda accord

Question
I have a 1989 Honda Accord - have had regular routine service done and now have 77,000 mi.  No major problems.  Today service dept told me that between 7 years and 105,00 mi the timing belt should be replaced (@ $800 cost).  I've never heard of this before and wondered if it's true.
Thanks for any info you can give me.

Answer
Mt Allor:
Yes it is. Honda recommends timing belt replaced every 90,000 miles or 72 months (1996 and older) - Every 105,000 miles or 84 months (1997 and newer). If the belt breaks you are looking at an engine overhaul. You may want to look for a good mechanic at a repair shop, not a tire or muffler store and they will do the work for less. The dealer gets a premium price for service.
