Honda Repair: 87 prelude si doesnt start when engine is warm, fuel delivery system, fuel pump relay

Question
Hey Bill,

Ok I have a 87 Prelude Si Fuel Injected. When its cold it starts fine and it drives fine even when its warm it drives fine but when I turn it off and try to start it again when the motor is warm it just cranks. i have to wait about a hour for the motor to cool down for it to start. I have changed the dist, cap, rotor, egr valve, coil, wires, plugs, ecu, i hear the fuel pump turn on and im getting spark, i checked the timeing and all the ground wires the main relay all good. and also a funky smell like some old gas starts to lerk. Please help.

also is there a relay for the fuel injectors and fuel pump? if so were are the exactly located at?

Answer
Ian:
The fuel pump relay is located under the dash, on the driver side close to the fuse box. I would not think that it is a relay problem, generally when a relay goes out it is done. I would check the fuel pump to make sure it is working correctly when the problem surfaces again, your fuel pump may be going out. If you are getting spark it is in the fuel delivery system.
Good luck.
Bill
