Honda Repair: Honda CRX, check engine light/speedometer, honda crx, speed sensor

Question
I just got this honda crx 90 DX

Got it from a friend, he said it couldn't start on it's own but we can push start it, jump start it and it will work.  Got a new starter.  Checked that battery, and it was low, charged it and now it works great.  Problem now is that the check engine light comes on and off.  When I turn off the car, the light will go away.  Then When I get it back up, the light comes on, but it take awhile.  I check the blinking light and it blinks 17 times... checked it out, and it had something to do with the speedometer sensor.  I don't know how to mess with that?  Oh did I mention the speedometer didn't work, how could I get it to work and or how much do you think it will cost? please thanks for you time...

Answer
Seng:
The speed sensor costs about $100 for the part and I would think it costs close to that to install. The speed sensor is located on the transmission housing and it has an electrical connector going to it. The sensor may be okay and it could be the wires so you may want to make sure the connections are good.
Hope this helps.
