Honda Repair: 92 2.3L DOHC Prelude Check engine Light, temperature gauge, cat converter

Question
Lask week sometime the check engine light on my prelude came on while driving home from work.  The Light never comes on when I start the car but rather after I have been driving for awhile.  I've replaced the air/oil filters, changed the oil, while I did those things I tried to jumper the connector under the center console to determine what trouble code the light was giving me, however no matter what type of wire I used the light wouldn't flash or come on.  Am I doing something wrong? I've also noticed that once the car gets to normal running temperatures it emits a smell, I can't really tell what it is, it could be oil burning off the engine, never smelled that before, my friend tells me she thought it smelled like burning rubber, possibly my belts? I don't think its the transmission although at city speeds the car sometimes hesitates when I step on the gas, almost like its slipping out of gear when I hit the brakes and after stepping on the gas hard enough it kicks down to a lower gear like it should. but before it does that the engine just revs.  other than the hesitation the car seems to drive fine, the temperature gauge stays normal, it does have a very minor oil leak, not enough to make me have to add any oil to the car so far.  I've had a couple people tell me its probably my O2 sensor but wouldn't that make the light come on as soon as I start the car?

Thanks in advance!
Dan

Answer
I am not exactly sure what it is but if it was the O2 sensor your right the check engine light will be lit once the car is started. It can simply still be a possibility or it can be a clogged cat-converter. I am really not sure sorry I couldn't be more help. The trouble code should still be saved im not sure why it wouldn't give you the code.
