Honda Repair: noisy 01 civic ex engine, working overtime, awsome

Question
greetings...my '01 civic ex engine is very noisy these days. it has 108k miles on it and it makes an odd whining noise around 1200-2500 rpm at about 3000 the noise goes away but the engine is very loud, at 4500 it sounds like it might blow itself apart. Any ideas what could make it so noisy and is this a problem? I noticed at idle the engine vibrates quite a bit but the valves sound like they are on time. Anyway bottom line is the engine sounds like its working overtime and if you have any ideas, that would be awsome.

John:
At 4500 RPM any Civic engine might sound a little stressed out as that is a getting wound out. As for the whining noise at 12 - 25 hundred RPM's you may want to remove belts temporarily to see if you can isolate further. If the engine sounds like its working OT then I would say that there is something that needs attention as it will only get worse.
Good luck.
