Question
Hi, I bought this car a month ago from an old lady who had not even started the car in 5 years.  It has 40,000 miles on it.  I towed the car home, changed the oil changed the spark plugs, put a new fuel pump in, new gas and it and it still won't start.  I can hear that the fuel pump is working, the car will crank and crank and crank but will not start.  Could you give me some input?  Thanks, Arend

Answer
Arend:
In order for your car to start you need spark and fuel, you need to narrow it down to which one is missing. Make sure the battery is fully charged and check for spark from the plugs. If you pull the plug out, is it wet with gas? That would tell you that you do not have spark.  Make sure you have new plug wires also. When you find out what is missing you can work from there. Since the car sat for such a long time I would change the power steering, brake and transmission fluids, also flush the radiator.
Good luck.
