Honda Repair: 91 Civic Speedo Cable, speedometer cable, speedo cable

I hope you can help me with this. My car is a '91 civic hatchback. My speedometer cable broke and almost simultaneously, the check engine light came on. It doesn't come on immediately after i start the car but after about five minutes. Could it be because of the speedo cable or is it something else making it come on?

THAT IS A POSSIBLE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION I WOULD LET SOMEONE CHECK THE ERROR MESSAGES FROM THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. AND HOW THAT IS DONE IS BY READING HOW MANY BLINKS THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD BLINK THERE IS A SERVICE PLUG FOR THAT AND ANY MECHANIC SHOULD KNOW THAT WHAT YOU DO IS JUST TAKE A PIECE OF WIRE TO CHECK IT AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WILL BLINK A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIMES AND THERE WILL BE A CODE FOR IT WHICH SHOPS KNOW AND THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO TELL YOU EXACTLY WHICH ERROR CODE IS COMING UP.
