Honda Repair: 89 Honda Accord LXi Clutch Repair, honda accord lxi, 89 honda accord

Question
With no warning my 5 speed 89 Honda Accord LXi (252,ooo Miles) would not shift into gear after started.  Neutral was all I had and if I tried to shift into reverse it made a bad grinding noise.  While the car is off I can depress the clutch, put it into 1st and then start it.  This works while shifting up through all 5 gears but as soon as I have to slow down and shift down it lets me get back into 1st or 2nd but will not shift any higher after that.  It will also begin spuddering and die even with the appropriate amount of acceleration given to the gas pedal.  Even with 252,000 miles it's been a great car, very dependable.  I've taken good care of it and maintained a regular maintenance schedule.  Does the clutch need replaced or can this problem be corrected in a simple and less costly way?

Answer
I would check the master cylinder that has happened to me also i just replaced that it costs about 20 bucks and takes a good 5 mins to replace and you would just have to re-bleed the cluth. Then it should work just fine after that if that isn't it i don't think that it would be the clutch sounds more like the whole transmission needs to be rebuilt cause if it was the clutch the clutch wouldn't let it go into any of the gears anytime.
