Honda Repair: 89 Honda Accord. Smoke from Steering colum.....m, steering colum, honda accord

I have an 89 Accord with 250,000 miles.  The service light has been on for 2 years and was told don't worry. Today the battery light started blinking and the interior lights started dimming. I turned off the radio and A/C and suddenly smoke started coming out from the steering colum.  What could this be?  Could this be something expensive to fix?

OK Sheri as you may have guessed smoke is never cheap...

MOST LIKELY some ignition wires got crossed and melted.  but without seeing it I have no way of telling...you need to get a mechanic to look at this ASAP do not try nad start the car this could cause a fire or something.
