Honda Repair: 1988 Honda CRX hesitation problem, 1988 honda crx, hesitation problem

Question
Several weeks ago my car started getting hard to start and when you accelerate while it is cold, it seems to be getting gas, then it doesn't, then it gets gas again.  You drive down the road lunging for about 10-15 minutes.  If you do not give it gas, it does not do this.  I also noticed the tachometer flutters and may even go to 0 then jump back up.  Once it warms up, this does not happen.  My husband noticed the speed sensor underneath the car on the transmission was hanging down and the bracket was broken.  He replaced the bracket but that did not make a difference.  My 16 year old son uses this car sometimes so I wonder if he could have run over something, which is why it was hanging down, that could have damaged the speed sensor or is there some other problem.  My husband had replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter and  air filter about a month before this began so those should all be okay.

Answer
Check your main relay...it is a black box about 3.0x1.5 under the dash...also check your fuel regulator and timing.  It is a HIGH possiblity that it is your timing...even if it is off a few degrees it can and will have these simptoms. If that doesnt work let me know more details.  Keep me updated on new developments GOOD LUCK!
