Honda Repair: 1990 Accord sunroof, honda service manual, car headliner

Question
The passenger side of the sunroof now stops about an eigth of an inch from closing completely.  The motor works fine and opens and shuts it just fine.  But there must be a gear striped or something on that side. I can't find anything blocking it or any dents in the runners or that front chrome piece that would hinder its full closing.  I once helped a friend take out the roof of his old Porsche and fix the sunroof.  It had a nylon gear on each side of the roof and one of the teeth was broken off.  He just put in a new gear and then that side closed just like the other.  If I had detailed instructions about how to get the roof liner down and and a few guidelines about what I'd see in there I'm sure I could find the problem.   THanks ahead if you can help.  I sure love this Accord It gets 34 MPH and I love the stick.  What are common problems with this model. Mine has 225 k miles.  Its been on Mobil 1 since 150000 and the compression is just like new on all cylinders.  It gets to 70 mph in the exact seconds it did at 150K when I got it.  It also leaks oil out of the valve cover  and I have put new gaskets in twice when I checked valve clearance  I must be doing something wrong when I put in the new ones.  Thanks again

Answer
Jeff,

Always nice to hear from loyal Honda owners. Those cars were really good and reliable.
Your sunroof has only one motor. The motor is in the rear part of the center of the headliner. You can remove the access cover and use an allen socket to manually close or open the roof. Try this and see if you can get it to close manually. If it closes all the way, then the cables are probally in good shape. If not, then you will probally have to replace the cable assembly.
You may have a bad limit switch. That will prevent it from closing all the way. You should buy a Honda service manual. That will tell you everything you need to know about the sunroof and any other questions about the rest of the car. (headliner removal also)
Common problems on your car included broken front motor mount, rear seatbelt update (free at any Honda dealer. 93-020 is the bulletin number to mention) Also speed sensors go bad a lot on those cars. Thats about all I can think of right now. Generally they were really good cars. I have seen those cars come in the dealer with over 300k miles on them! Yours is just breaking in. There was also one years back that had 500k miles on it! The person reported it to American Honda and they gave him a new car!
About your oil leak, its probally not the valve cover gasket. Check the cam seal. Thats probally where its leaking!
Good luck
