Honda Repair: 1996 Honda Accord DX 5 Speed Manual Transmission, clutch master cylinder, clutch system

Question
My 19 year old son's car will not go into any gears. The clutch pedal seems loose.  He just informed me that " It used to be that it wouldn't go into third"! Could you tell me what is wrong and the approximate costs for repairs.  Live in Connecticut. Thank You, Pat

Answer
Pat,

As far as giving you an estimate, that would be almost impossible. I would have to see the car and tear it down to get an idea of the problem and parts needed.
I can give you some ideas of what the problem may be. First check the clutch master cylinder fluid level. Is there any fluid in the resivour? If not, then you have a leak somewhere and need to find it. Then you need to bleed the clutch system. From there, if everything works ok, then you are probally done. If still no clutch pedal, then the clutch probally came apart and will need to be replaced.
The transmissions in those cars are usually bullet proof. Although since your son said it would not go into 3rd, it may need 3rd gear syrncro set. Be sure you tell the technician that information when you have them look at the car. That will save you from taking out the trans twice.
Thanks and good luck
